The North Shore, as with all of Earth, is a living system. People are a part of, not separate from, our breathing ecosystems. When we incorporate nature into urban communities and infrastructure, we increase biodiversity, making neighborhoods greener, healthier, and safer in the face of extreme weather events such as heat domes and atmospheric rivers. Let’s all take part in the restoration of nature within our cities.
The regeneration of our relationships with nature and one another will take work and will immediately provide significant benefits. By strengthening our communities’ resilience and collaborating, we can restore and protect the ecosystems on our own city blocks.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll share stories, information, and insights about the amazing biodiversity within the North Shore's living ecosystems. Our first instalment - “Our North Shore roots are in our trees” - follows this introduction.
We hope you fall in love with the trees, birds, bees, and all living things in our backyards. If you would like to contribute to this series by writing or sharing stories, providing details of events taking place, or in another way, please contact us at hello@betternorthshore.ca.
